I’ve commented before but I feel I need to again. First off this tune moves my heart so far and so deep to places rarely visited, I’m pretty wide in my listening, heavy metal, rock, blues, folk, jazz, vocal pop, classical…..yet few tunes move me so deep as this tune and this specific performance of it moves me to tears EVERY single time. A precious classic tune with a wonderful performance and the Chieftains w/ Alison make a wonderful synergy rarely found.
Alison Krauss just brings me to very emotional places. She has something so special to say when she communicates with her effusive singing voice. She fills me up with energy in a way that few other musicians do. The only comparison I can think of right now is Eva Cassidy. I agree with spagNsc – this is a you tube best.
Thats the Uilean Pipes they are Irish. Bagpipes are Scottish. The uilean pipes are played with the elbow, the air is pumped in. The only downside, you can’t march with them.

I despise generalizations but this performance is why I – from time to time – see fit to honour nations and peoples in my heart.
Bless the Irish.

It’s amazing just how good the Chieftains sound with such a wide array of talent. Allison Krause is one of the very best matchups.

…and, of course, “uileann” literally means “elbow” in Scots Gaelic, presumably Irish Gaelic too.

Alison really has a feel for darker music, the touch of supernatural, the minor key.

Actualy, you should look up the history of Bluegrass and the people who originated it.
